The artist
A life of looking closely.
Chuck Nelson is a self-taught painter who grew up in a creative home. His mother was an interior designer who painted in oils; his father was an aviation lover who took him to airshows in Chicago and Florida.
He studied at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, but never took formal painting or color theory classes—he is completely self-taught as a painter. His work draws on a love of airplanes and flying, beaches and tropical scenery, and real-life locations he has visited and photographed around the world.
Florida skies, clouds, palms, and ocean meet aircraft, travel, and memory in paintings shaped by acute observation and attention to detail. The goal is realism with emotional impact: work that leaves room for the viewer’s own imagination.
